Get a Grip on Life

Manos Kratos

Being affected by stroke can be a devastating endeavor, patients often have life long afflictions because of this. Numbness and Desensitization in their hands is one of the possible side effects.

Numbness is also a result of carpal tunnel syndrome which has unfortunately become more common in the people who work with computers.

People with numbness partially or completely loose their sensation in their hand.

We set out to design a glove which can measure the force being applied to the handler and give feedback recreating the lost sensation in the fingers.

Force sensitive resistors were used to measure the force each finger is applying and total force being applied is calculated using force from each finger.

To have as little change in the modality of lost sense, we’re using haptic feedback using coin vibrators to notify the amount of force applied.

Coin vibrators increase or decrease in intensity depending on the amount of force applied. For preliminary training of the sense, people are given specific common day objects with known force to hold and given positive conformation with haptic feedback.

The future iteration of the process was intended to have a different version of flexible fabric style force sensors along with wireless haptic sleeve to allow having the sleeve on any limb of the body.
